I started this line of thought with the question “What do you Believe in”, but it has melded into my thoughts of the Beasts spoken of in Revelations. That is the way thoughts about God’s Word develop. One thought leads to another, to another, to another.
I made the statement that all governments are an abomination to God and that is difficult to understand without much study. One of the reasons it is difficult to understand is one has to unlearn what the world says about governments before one can learn the truth about them. Whatever government one lives under seems the correct way of governing, because that is the propaganda that the person is subject to. The propaganda always ends with this system isn’t perfect but it is the best system, or how do you think the people should be governed. Then flaws in another system that do not exist in this system are pointed out. Truth is no worldly system of government is the perfect system so one can always use that method to defend any particular type of government. It brings to mind the question, ‘What is the proper way to rob a bank?’ it doesn’t matter how one robs a bank as it is always wrong to do so.
As I said in my previous post All governments are an abomination to God. Perhaps I should have said, ‘All worldly forms of governments are an abomination to God’. The only legal duty of a government is to protect the citizens. That is to punish the guilty among the citizens and to protect against other countries that would enslave the citizens. But because all men are flawed they put their own interests before the people’s interests and we are enslaved and must do what ever those in charge have decided.
God has chosen a King to rule our lives and any attempt to appoint someone else is, in my view, a sin. If everyone would subject themselves to the King of Kings there would be peace on earth. However God does not make anyone subject to Jesus. That is a decision that each individual must make for themselves. Then after I made that decision I still voted for a man to be my master. Yea, I did not immediately understand. Yea, I am not the brightest bulb in any display.
Governing is the right of God, but Satan wants to be our god and Satan is the prince of this world so it is only logical that he tries to govern. As I pointed out in my previous post there are seven basic forms of government and the dragon in Revelation 12:3 has seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. We are told that it is a sign and we are told in verse 9 the dragon is Satan.
Notice how similar the dragon or Satan is to the beast that comes out of the sea in verse 13:1. Both have seven heads and ten horns, but the dragon has 7 crowns and the beast has 10! The dragon comes from Heaven (Verses 12:7-9), but the beast comes out of the sea. It seems to me that when anything comes out of the earth it is symbolic of coming from man. God my use the word sea, or island, or mountains, or some other word, but if it is symbolic it means from mankind.
This is why it is so difficult to explain what one thinks Scripture means. One thought melds into another and if the other person has not reached a similar conclusion about the symbols that God is using it just becomes too confusing. So doubt everything that I am saying and test it with the Word. You know that I am only a man and therefore it is a given that I am wrong about some of this.
Well, to continue I think heads represent types of governments and horns represent the highest office of governments and crowns represent those who hold those offices.
The beast has 3 more crowns because with Democracy there are the people, the legislative and the judicial that are suppose to be in charge and yet none of them are really in charge! The dragon has only seven crowns because he is the one in charge and he knows it: or actually I should say that he believes it.
How about thinking about the verses in chapter 13 with the idea that all governments are an abomination to God?
(Rev 13:1 NIV) And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name.
All governments come from man just as the beast comes from the sea. Democracy is a blasphemous name the same as the names of the six other governments. They are blasphemous because they are an attempt of man to govern himself: leaving God out.
(Rev 13:2 NIV) The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.
The dragon gave his power, throne and great authority to the beast. Do not governments have great power and authority? God may allow Satan to give his power to governments, but I don’t believe God would directly give power to something that would take His glory.
(Rev 13:3 NIV) One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast.
It seems to me that that would be theocracy. Or more clearly Islamic rule which has made quite a recovery. I personally am astonished that anyone would follow Islamic theocracy.
(Rev 13:4 NIV) Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?”
Who can make war against government? Can you visualize bringing this government to its knees? It has become a government ruled by the rich and yet the people still choose (Between only two possibilities) which of the rich will be their master. You see that all of the heads meld into one beast and that is Satan.
(Rev 13:5 NIV) The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months.
Forty-two months is the time of the Gentiles. It started when God let Israel be overcome and it will end probably when Jesus comes back, but perhaps God will reestablish Israel before then. I haven’t given much thought to that so I do not have a clear opinion.
(Rev 13:6 NIV) He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven.
What government doesn’t blaspheme and slander God’s name? The leaders of this government claim to be believers and then vote to kill babies! I am afraid they have now gone too far, as they are trying to stop Israel from defending its self. Any one that studies the Bible knows that is a sin that God will not let any nation get away with.
(Rev 13:7 NIV) He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.
It is easy to see that Islam has and is conquering the saints and almost as easy to see democracy is doing the same. It is also obvious that everyone is subject to government in one form or another. This democracy claims there must be separation of Church and state. Do you not realize that we are the Church? And what can we do about the masters that we chose? We make threats and we complain and they laugh behind our backs and continue making laws that separate Church and state.
(Rev 13:8 NIV) All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast–all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.
Well I know it will anger many, but when this government is honored, and even in the Church of God it is honored, it is worshiped (worship – To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion.). Though I once did exalt this government now my name is written in the book of life and my king is the Lamb of God. I know that I am a subject of the King of Kings and that is the only government that will prevail and the only one I have any fondness for.
Well, let me stop here because this has already gotten too long for one post. In the next post I will try to explain the beast that comes out of the earth (Verse 13:11).
Just to give you some advance warning I believe that beast to be symbolic of money.
