AS CHRISTIANS WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT OUR GOVERNMENT?

If you have read anything I have said about this country you know I have little respect for the system of government that we have. In case you haven’t just let me say this, “This Country was formed in rebellion to God”.

I didn’t always have this view, but I read Romans 13:1&2 and applied it to the formation of this Government and it changed my understanding of democracy. I have since repented and no longer believe in this Democracy. It came down to who do I really put my trust in and I realized that first my loyalty must rest in God and anything and everything else must agree with that loyalty. You can see that anything else would be a sin.

As I said, I have repented. Since I understand that this Nation was formed in rebellion to God I have not participated in politics at all. I am no longer a registered voter and do not endorse any candidate or political party. I believe God when He says He appoints the authorities and I believe that is the only way it should be.

The problem stems from our sin. God does not stop sin and when our forefathers decided the people could do a better job of appointing authorities He did not stop them. Nor does He stop us as we try to elect a man.

I know that if every Christian does as I have that there is no hope for our country. I do not want this as it can only result in Satan winning this part of the battle. So I have devoted some thought to the problem, or I should say I have wrestled with God over an answer to our plight. As you know I am only a student and I don’t always understand what the Spirit is trying to teach me so I am going to post what seems right to me and maybe someone who understands more clearly can straighten me out and maybe we can begin to work toward a real solution to our problem.

First even though the system is basically flawed we must work within it. We can not rebel. Even though it was not God’s idea that we should choose authorities He has appointed the authorities that we wanted. To rebel against those authorities is to rebel against God as Romans 13:1&2 make clear.

The first thing that we must do is we must all repent. (2 Chr 7:14 NIV) “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

We must humble ourselves and admit it is wrong to attempt to choose our own authorities. We must ask God to honor His word and again choose authorities for us. That is the way it should be, because we do not know what is in another man’s heart and we do not know what someone will do in the future, but God knows both.

Perhaps we should form another political party: the Christian political party. The other two parties have already determined which candidates will do as they want and if they do not then the next time they will not receive money for their campaign. This action would result in every church that participated losing its tax exempt status, but we can really serve only one master and money is not the one we should be serving.

You may say that this is only my idea, but Scripture clearly states the way we can extract ourselves from this mess (2 Chr 7:14). It should be clear that we can not govern ourselves. We need God for that task and only God. We have sinned by not accepting God’s word that He will choose our authorities and attempting to do it ourselves. We need to heed our own words and really put our trust in God.

Will this come about? No! I don’t believe most of my brothers and sisters have the faith that is required for the cure!

    I just came across your blog, so I don’t know if you’ve written in more detail about this subject in the past, but I’m curious about what kind of practical government you’d endorse. Are you suggesting a return to monarchy?

    Our govenment was created Of the people, By the people, For the people.. In other words we the citizens of this country are the Government. Our elected officals that work in Washington, and local government, are in reality subject to us, the common Joe..

    Unfortunately they have forgotton this small detail. As for Romans 13, Again I state, We are the Government, the people. So in reality. who is not submitting to who. Its thoes that were elected that are not following Romans 13.

    Whenever we give our authority to someone and it is abused, as in the case of our Government, the result is never good. We as Christians are to give to caesar what belongs to caeser and give to God what belongs to God.

    What belongs to God are all things spiritual, all things that pertain to Life, all things that pertain to rightesness, all things that pertain to Holiness etc….. We give to caesar what is earthly, because caesar is earthly, and when caesar ignors and defiles the Word of God, we are no longer bound to caesar. Those of the Luciferian order will continue to give and cater to caesar.

    As Christians we have droped the ball, Abortion, pornography, Homopsexuility etc…. should have never been tolerated to the extent it is today.
    I totally agree with your 2Chro7:14 ex. Gods people called by Gods name need to wake up and smell the coffee!!! Unfortunately most Christians are living in some fantasy land occupied with every form of entertainment and pleasure…..God says: What does light have to do with darkness?

    2Co 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness?

    Please excuse my late response.

    I would support democracy or rather a Christian political party of this democracy. I realize that it doesn’t sound practical to you, but this democracy isn’t practical as it is practiced. Nothing is improving and everything is deteriorating. What is practical about that?

    Those who are elected do not feel as though they owe the people anything. It was money that got them elected and the money came from their political party. That is who they owe and if they stray to far from what their party wants they will not receive money for the next campaign. If politicians were honest they would admit that the people are only pawns to be controlled for their purposes.

    Everyone knows campaign promises are only lies. It strikes me as funny that anyone believes any of those promises. But they do!

    I must admit that the reigning President has kept his main promise! He has certainly changed things.

    Get a grip man! This country was founded by greed! The Founding Fathers wanted the land for themselves. The Founding Fathers rebelled against the King that God appointed. That is not a Christian principle.

    We are not created equal at all. Some have more physical strength, some are more intelligent, some are born rich, some poor, etc. it would be more accurate to say we are all created unequal.

    I prefer to view those who have given their lives so that others might live in peace as just that. I do not think it perfectly accurate to say they gave their life for the country. I do not want anyone to think that I am somehow trying to belittle their sacrifice. I am grateful for those sacrifices. I just believe they ultimately gave their lives for the people.

    You are certainly right when you say ‘the government of the people, by the people, for the people’. There is no mention of God in that oft repeated phrase. If it were really a Christian Country shouldn’t it be said ‘of God, by God, and for God’? It is not because it is not a Christian Country.

    Let me, just as a student; give you a few questions to ask the Holy Spirit that lives in you.
    Where in the Bible does God say we should govern ourselves? If you were president and you pushed some agenda could you be absolutely sure it would succeed? God can see the future and would know absolutely if it would do what He wanted it to, but man can not. Knowing this, who do you want to govern you, God or man? Do not forget to consider that God wants the best for His children and is not influenced by greed as man is.

    Government is not the servant of the people. We chose men to govern us and we give them the power to do so. We make them our master and they do what ever they want. If we do not like what they have done then we have the power to remove them from office when their term has expired, but until then they have the power to govern us and they certainly are not servants. We are saddled with what ever their decisions have caused and when we give the next politician the power to govern us we have no way to insure anything will be done about it; whether it is good or bad. Where really is the truth in the statement ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people’? Doesn’t anyone really think about what is said?

    Jesus did say that we should give to Caesar what is Caesar, but if God owns everything then what is Caesar’s? Having said that Caesar ruled by the power of God so those under Caesar were obligated to pay taxes.

    We have made many men our masters by electing them to an office of authority over us and we will have to live with the consequences of our errors.

    God has given us enough rope to hang ourselves and we have done so. The part that amazes me is that we don’t even understand what we have done!

    Well, I suppose the answer is that we don’t want to understand, because we would have to admit that we are wrong and our pride will not let us admit it.

    Pride rules this country, along with greed etc. Each to their own, for their own and by their own. Clashings and a speedily degrading “moral” society that will end up just as any other “country” or great nation (many people). One that doesn’t follow the Law’s of God Almighty and will fall. You are right. And this noose that you speak of is so tempting it is almost as if we were all in a desert deprived of the very Water of Life. Seeing anything and everything as either good or bad (lukewarm…) instead of seeing things in the Spirit and discerning things from such. Though, we must take care of what spirit we are of. Self-serving or God-fearing. Weak as we are, it is easy to be deceived from the truth that God spoke and still speaks.
    Then most say who is God? Then I have to ask, Who IS your God?
    Many slap a label on what and who they believe and trust in. Put a nice pretty box around it (theology) and say “this is my religion”. NOTHING as God is. God can not be contained in the thoughts and ideas of mankind, theology or even a man made moral society. We are given but a little information (and we can hardly deal with that!) that is just enough to pull our selves out or to bury our selves with. It is a choice from the heart. Each one. SO the rope can either be saving or damning by the self’s choice…
    Self-serving or self-less. Not so much as having to be ‘self-less’ as it is loving The Creator for who He has revealed Himself to us to be. Because He IS Love. Those that are His WILL hear His voice.
    I do believe that He can and will heal. He said as much. Maybe not this nation, though ALL things are possible with God. Like Nineveh I suppose… However, are we even remotely like Nineveh? Eek. Can’t say that I agree with my limited understanding. They LISTENED to what God had to say and repented. Maybe more like Babylon. (THE Babylon? I don’t know.)
    As far as how the US was truly formed, I believe that God gave the people over to the desires of their hearts, as it still is. To be honest, most history that is taught is bias and half truths. Yet the results of what ever it was are truly shining a big bright spotlight on rebellion against God. Not a funny thing to be ignorant or proud of.
    I still can’t get my heart off of 1 Corinthians 13… I wonder though, if we are made in the likeness of God, and then we accept His Spirit to rule in/over us, and His Spirit is Love… not forceful… leaving those to do as their heart desires, then who are any of us to rant, get upset or angry with what has already been predicted?
    I don’t know… Maybe just watching our own selves is hard enough?
    Here is where I am at. I know that I know nothing as I ought to. I do KNOW that God IS a loving, patient and just God. HE is who I personally desire to rule over and in me, so I can be a personal living sacrifice to Him who has made me. For HIM. In Him and To Him. It has been painful, but I am much more appreciative of this pain that I see as correction.

    Learning to tame the tongue is one of the hardest things that I have had to do… aside from parenting. 😉
