Now, I did not say that it is impossible to give 10% to the church, but just to assure you that I am as radical as you think I am, let me say this,”10% is too much to give to the church!

When I use the word tithe, everyone thinks in their own mind that I am referring to the Old Testament rule of giving 10% to the Levi’s, whose responsibilities were to take care of the Temple. That is because you do not study God’s Word for your self! The authorities of the church tell you God commanded the Israelites to give 10% and we should still practice that rule. Well, God did not command the Israelites to give 10% every year. Do not accept my word for God’s Word. Read it yourself.

Deu 14:22-29 (NIV) Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always. But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice. And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own. At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Now, do you see that God’s tithe differs from man’s tithe?

Two out of three years, the tithe was a big banquet. The Israelites were to blow a whole 10% of their income for that year on themselves: not give it to the Levites. It was to show them just how good God had been, and would be, to them. It would be pretty hard not to realize how good God had been, when you were enjoying a party that He had supplied for you! THE TITHE WAS NOT AN OBLIGATION, BUT A GIFT FROM GOD!

By the way, if you are so self-righteous that you condemn others for taking a drink of an alcoholic beverage you might want to consider what God thinks about it. (14:26)

The Levis were to receive the 10% only every third year. That means that they only received 1/3 of the tithe. So, if your preacher tries to tell you that as a good Christian you should give 10% of what you earn, then explain Deuteronomy 14:22-29 to him. Then be sure to tell him that if he were a good preacher he would already know it: and teach it.

Can you see that it is not even possible to tithe as the Israelites did? Where is the place that God has chosen for you to eat your tithe this year?

In my opinion, 10% from everyone is three times more than the church should have. It has corrupted the church!

It is thought that money strengthen the church, but let us apply a little logic to that thought; using God’s Word as the text book.

Matthew 6:24 (NIV) “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Luke 16:13 (NIV) “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

We can see that money is a master that opposes God, so does it make any sense to believe that we need more of the master that opposes God, in order to serve Him better? THAT IS NUTS!

Can you see that it has led the authorities of the church astray? Have you ever heard the tithe, as God commanded in Deuteronomy, taught? That only the third year it was to be brought to the Temple? And then it was to be used to feed the poor not to line the pockets of the preacher! Men have twisted the tithe to say what they want to say, not what God wants to say.

By the way, the responsibility does not just lie with the authorities of the church. If the congregation would read their Bibles and ask for wisdom from the only One that can give it then it would not be so easy to preach tithing, as it is taught.

Look in the mirror and get the log out of your own eye and then you can help the preacher get the speck out of his. Do you hate money yet? If not then which master do you serve?
