The book of Revelation is written to everyone that is a Christian, as the first verse says: Rev 1:1(NIV) The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John.
If you are a Christian, then you are a servant of God. It doesn’t matter how good a servant or what year this is, the book is written to you. You receive a blessing when you read or listen to Revelation (Verse 1:3) and take to heart what is written in it.
It seems to me that the churches are churches in time as well as churches in Asia. If I only considered them churches in Asia there would be little for me to understand, but if I consider them to be churches in time, then there is much to see.
The number seven is the number of completion. The seven stars or angels (Verse 1:29) are all of the people in the church, at the time which the churches are spoken to. An angel is merely a messenger so everyone is an angel. There are only two kinds of angels, those of God, or those of Satan. If someone has no message, then by default, they are an angel of Satan.
Because we are in the last times the first (Ephesus) and the last church (Laodicea) are easy to see and understand.
The first church is the Catholic Church. Jesus warned that church that if they did not repent, he would remove it’s lampstand. A lampstand burns oil, which is a symbol of understanding, in order to produce light, which is a symbol of the presence of God.
It is clear that Jesus has removed the Lampstand from the Catholic Church, because there is no light coming from it. It has perverted almost all of the major points of Christianity as taught in the Bible.
Mat 23:9 (NIV) And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Catholics are taught to call all priests father and to add further sin, to call the Pope “Most Holy Father”. God is a jealous God and I am quite sure that displeases Him.
Catholics are taught to pray prayers that come from memory, not from the heart. The Rosary must anger God to no end. Catholics are taught to pray to Mary so that she might pray to God for them, but Scripture demands that we pray to God only.
The Catholic Church teaches that tithing is giving a tenth to the church, though it is not. (Most Churches teach the same). God did not give the tenth to Israel, in order that they might give it back to Him. God said it belongs to Him, but parts of it could be redeemed from Him. Israel was charged with taking care of what belonged to God. I have written about the tithe and it is too long to repeat here. Forget everything that man has told you about the tithe and study it for yourself. You will be amazed by the errors that are taught!
Jesus said that if the church did not repent, he would remove it’s lampstand and it did not repent and has placed an obstacle in the path of all Catholics that blocks their understanding that we must all repent.
One must repent and be baptized in order to receive the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Church has decided that babies can be baptized, but they cannot repent, because they do not even know what is happening to them.
One can see that because no one in the Catholic Church has been baptized, not the leaders, or the followers, then no one has the Holy Spirit. One must have the Spirit to teach them, so they cannot learn.
If you think that I do not like the Catholic Church, you are correct, but the Catholic Church is made up of human beings, like me. I, like my Heavenly Father, want everyone to be saved. I thank God that I was not born into a Catholic family, because I would have had to unlearn almost everything that religion had taught me, before I could realize the need to repent and be properly baptized.
Weep for those who have been deceived and pray that God will send them a modern day Jonah, who preached repentance to the people of Nineveh. One who will not hate the ignorant, but love them and will preach repentance out of love, not hate.
By the way, repentance is an on going, everyday, requirement. Though I am a Christian, I am still human and I still fall short of the glory of God. I still need a Savior, just the same as the day I was baptized, and I always will.
This has become too long a post. I will explain the last church, as I understand it in the next post. Well that is my plan, not necessarily God’s.
